In-depth (2005)
Going
straight back to work in January for her very first Taiga drama "Yoshitsune" in
the role of Utsubo, 2005 proved to be a very busy year for Aya. Her third
movie and sequel to "Azumi", "Azumi 2 Death or Love" was released in March
along with her 2nd clips DVD "UETO AYA CLIPS 02" shortly after.
In between PR events and CM filming, Aya took volleyball courses to prepare
herself for her first drama of the year "Attack No.1". Just like "Ace wo nerae!"
in 2004, this one was also adapted from a popular '80s manga. She sang the
ending theme song for the drama, which was produced by Takamizawa Toshihiko from
famous band THE ALFEE. The single reached #7 on the
Oricon Weekly Charts and quickly
sold over 85,000 copies making it Aya's 3rd best selling single.
Later this year, she landed her voice to the main character of Ebina Kayoko's
novel turned animation movie "Ashita genki ni na~re!". In July, she starred
alongside popular Johnny's Kamenashi Kazuya and Akanishi Jin from
KAT-TUN, main stars of the hit drama "Gokusen", in a commercial for Oronamin
C. It became one of the most popular of the summer, reinforcing Aya's status
as CM queen.
Two years after her first nation-wide live tour, Aya gave us her long-awaited
second live tour entitled "UETO AYA LIVE TOUR 2005 "Genki hatsu ratsuu?" which
covered 11 different venues. The Idol's tour was a success drawing more than
15,000 people from all over the country. Her 12th single "Kaze wo ukete" was
released on the tour's first date. The song was produced by Ryoji from popular
reggae/hip-hop band, Ketsumeishi and was used as the theme song for the 2nd
Konjiki no Gash Bell!! animated movie.
In September, in addition to turning twenty, Aya released her fifth photo book
"Breath" shot in Guam Island. She also starred in a special one episode drama
with veteran actress Kuroki Hitomi called "Nada sousou ~Kono ai ni ikite~".
Also, Aya was one of the promotional faces for the yearly National Cencus which
she wrote for the very first time that year. In late fall, she was chosen to be
the mascot girl for the "FIFA Club World Championship TOYOTA Cup Japan 2005"
securing her many TV appearances in sports related programs.
From late October till December, Aya swiped four different awards, the Best
Hair, Best Smile, Best CM Acting and Nail Queen 2005 prizes. In December, Aya
released her 2nd summer tour on DVD shot at her last performance in Tokyo.
Lastly, Aya concluded the year by ranking #1 in CMDB Data's yearly Favourite
Female CM Talent poll and #6 in the overall poll.
